From Michael Vinther, the developer that brought you the free image editing tool Image Analyzer, comes another free application that can prove to be quite handy, Commander. This application is a dual pane file manager; use it to locate, view, move, rename, delete your files, and more.

The Commander installation file is less than 1MB in size; such a lightweight download will take but a moment to complete, even on a lousy internet connection. Installing Commander on a Windows PC will also take but a moment. Run the aforementioned installation file, a setup wizard shows up, a few clicks later the installation process is complete and you can start using the Commander application.

As mentioned above, Commander is a dual-pane file manager – this means it features the very popular dual-pane format for its interface. To the left and right you have two panes that you can use to browse your drives and access your files. At the bottom you have buttons for several functions Commander performs (rename, view, edit, copy, move/rename, new directory, recycle, find or compare files, compare directories, compare focused files) while at the top you have a traditional File Menu.

The functionality Commander has to offer is typical of what you would expect from a file manager. You can browse your drives, you can access all your files, you can rename them, you can copy and move files from one location to another, you can create a new folder to store files in, you can compare files and/or directories, you can search for files, you can delete files.

If you like the sort of functionality Commander has to offer and you would like to lend a helping hand, there are several ways to do so: make a donation, help improve the documentation, help translate the program, develop plugins.

Use the free and quite simple Commander tool to manage all your files.

Pros

It will take but a moment to get the application up and running. Commander features a dual-pane interface. Use the application to easily manage your files. Commander is freeware.

Cons

The application feels a bit too basic.
